Week Commencing 4th March 2019

This month our Safeguarding focus is Road Safety.

It has been pleasing to know that the children have listened and taken note of last month’s Safeguarding focus which was ‘On Line Safety’. Recently children came to talk to staff about the YouTube ‘Mo Mo’ video which had concerned them. We were pleased that children were sensible enough to come and report their concerns to staff so that we could in turn alert parents.

This week sees the beginning of Lent. We will be having an Ashing Service in school on Wednesday; this will be led by the staff using ashes blessed by Father Glover earlier in the day.

On Monday we have the class group photographs so will need children to be in school with their blazers and smart winter uniform.
Members of staff are going to the SERV after school to put up classroom displays for the Edmund Rice Refugee centre at St Sebastian’s Community Centre in Salford. Staff have prepared displays to aid the teaching of Literacy and Numeracy in English as a second or third language.

On Tuesday Prep 5 will be leading Collective Worship for the whole school.
We will be having our usual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Races prior to Lent.
Governors will be undertaking ‘Prevent’ training on Tuesday evening. This training alerts people to what to look out for in school to ensure that people are not being drawn into terrorism.

On Wednesday we will be having a short ‘Ashing’ service led by staff.

On Thursday we will be celebrating World Book Day; our focus this year is Non-fiction books and we are picking up our theme for the year involving animals and care for the planet. We will be talking about books and looking at costumes during the afternoon session.
Swimming for P5 will be as usual –any masks or complex animal costumes can be left at school and donned after swimming.
Friday is CAFOD Family Fast day, when we ask children to forfeit their break in favour of a slice of bread. We ask that each child brings £1 for our CAFOD collection. This is part of our Lenten journey.

On Friday I will be visiting Adcot School in Shrewsbury.

We are preparing for our Open Day 13th March between 9-30am to 11-30am.
Parents are most welcome to attend between 9-30am and 10am.
Please encourage perspective parents to come and view the school.
