Week Commencing 11th February 2019

Miss Kent and I had an interesting and humbling trip to Dublin last week as we took part in the Edmund Rice Education beyond Borders European Congress.

It was moving to hear about the work that goes on within the Edmund Rice family and to hear first-hand about the experiences of a homeless person and three young refugees.

Whilst in Dublin we were constantly being updated, via Twitter, about all the activities that were happening at school to show how we were ‘Looking Out of the Window’.

The children and staff at St Joseph’s Prep showed compassion to those in need and had a really productive day contributing to the local community. Thank you and well done to everyone involved.

Congratulations to our Cross Country Team who took part in the Midlands Cross Country Meet. Macey was a Gold Medal winner, which is amazing. Congratulations Macey!

All of our runners came in within the first fifty, which as a small school is a marvellous achievement.

This week is PSHCE week, the theme being ‘Caretakers of the World’.

We will be ‘off timetable’ but have a full week of activities planned.
Each day Miss Biggs will be leading a 10 minute assembly looking at our Oceans and how we need to care for them.
Other themes throughout the week are:-

• Early Years – Road Safety
• PP1 - Caring for our Pets
• PP2 - Care of the Oceans
• P3 and P4 - The Rainforest
• P5 - Renewable Energy
• P6 - Pollution

On Monday the Table Tennis Team have an after school match.
6-30 to 7-30pm - P5 parents are invited to an ‘Examination Prep’ talk with Mr Smith, Mr Salt and Mrs Hutchinson. This is aimed at giving parents an insight as to the preparations that take place for the Verbal and Non-verbal examinations and how parents can support their children.

On Wednesday we have the school Nurse in lead a Dental Hygiene talk with P3, followed by a talk on ‘The Body and Emotional Change’ with P5/P6
Wednesday is also our Valentines Disco 3pm to 5-30pm. Children to be collected from the playground as usual at 5-30pm.

On Thursday EYFS and PP1/PP2 have Dr Segal visiting the school to talk about ‘Tooth Care’.

On Friday the school break up for half term (Joe’s Club as usual until 6pm)

School reopens on 25th February at 7-45am.

I trust that you have a restful half term break.
