Oct 15

Week Commencing 15th October 2018

I have just returned from an interesting weekend in Southern Ireland ‘Walking in the Footsteps’ of the founder of the Christian Brothers – Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice.

It has been a fascinating weekend visiting Blessed Edmunds birthplace in Callan, the place of his first school in Waterford and the first school he founded in Dublin-Mount Sion, which still operates as a Junior and Senior school today.

Having been a rich merchant, Edmund’s life changed at the premature death of his wife and birth of a disabled child which eventually led him to form a group of like-minded men who sought God and saw their mission to educate the poor. It is interesting that Blessed Edmunds educational model, even in the 1800’s, was to start by feeding and clothing the children before he attempted to educate them.

Our school is based on his charism today.

The other Prep Head’s and I who ‘Walked in the Footsteps’ of Blessed Edmund hope that we can plan a similar experience for our Prep 6 children in the future.

This week we have Parents Evenings on Tuesday and Thursday from 3-40pm onwards. If you have not made an appointment with your child’s class teacher and would like to do so, please contact the Office.

Thursday 18th is ‘Anti-Slavery Day’. We will remember all those people entrapped by slavery in the past and present in our Prayers on this day.

I am happy to be showing visitors around the school this week.

‘Every day is an Open Day’, please make an appointment to view the school.
