Week Commencing 18th June 2018

This week is National Refugee Week, we will be remembering and praying for all those people in the world who have been displaced from their homes. Jesus and his family were themselves refugees when they fled to Egypt (Matthew 2 v13). The Edmund Rice Network are currently working on projects with Refugees based in Salford.

I recently attended an Edmund Rice Network gathering at ‘Woodeaves,’ Hale Barns where some Syrian refugees presented an evening of Syrian culture and food. It was very interesting to talk the people after the presentation to discover the lives that they had led before having to flee, one gentleman had been a Lawyer in Syria and was now here safely with his family.

The Edmund Rice Network run projects to support the Refugees; one project is the production of a Cookery book ‘Tastes of Home’ which share some of the favourite dishes of local refugees. I have these on sale in school at a cost of £5. They will also be available to buy at the Summer Fayre - 16th June 12 - 2-30pm and at the Praise Evening 24th June 6- 7pm or contact the school.
This week is a busy week in school as we are ‘off timetable’ for ‘Humanities Week’. The focus for this week is Historical figures. Literacy and Numeracy will be carrying on alongside Humanities.

On Monday we have the Swimming Gala held at Denstone College. This is an annual event and we are mist grateful to Denstone College for facilitating this for us. All children from PP2 to P6 will be taking part. Lunch is provided after the event by Denstone College. Children will need to come in their track suits with swimming costumes underneath and bring underwear to change into afterwards.

On Tuesday the Reception class will be leading assembly at 3pm. Parents and carers are most welcome to attend.

On Wednesday Prep 6 will be at Conkers for the annual Prep6 end of year treat.

On Thursday girls from P5 and P6 will be taking part in a Rounder’s tournament at Stafford Grammar school.

Visitors will be looking around the school during the week for places in the next academic year.

Throughout the week members of staff will be undertaking various training as part of their Professional development.

Remember in your prayers our peripatetic singing teacher Mrs Cooper who is being ordained Priest in the Church of England on 23rd June.

Diary Date- Praise Evening Sunday 24th June led by ‘The Banned’ 6 - 7pm, here in school – all welcome.
