Week Commencing 19th May 2017

Last week the children had some fun learning experiences. The Stardom from Keele University took them into Outer Space as we considered ‘Space Weather ‘ and ‘We are Aliens’. This was a fantastic presentation with a portable planetarium erected in the Hall which facilitated lots of questions and thought.

The Skip Hop day was another great experience seeing the children striving to be better than last year or achieving some skips for the first time. We are utilising our skills as we raise money for the British Heart Foundation in our sponsored ‘Jump for Heart’ taking place on Wednesday 24th May.

The ‘St Joseph’s Veterinary Team’ cracked into operation as our chicks began to hatch; this year their arrival into the world has been more traumatic than usual, but with care two of the more fragile chicks appear to be getting stronger. The children have been very interested and have observed the wonder and fragility of life first hand.

This week we are off timetable for Design Technology Week where every child will be involved in the Design, Make and Evaluate Programme. Each morning

Mr Smith will be leading a session with the Pre Prep and Prep Departments to show children some specific woodwork skills.

On Monday we welcome the Speech and Language Team into our Early Years Department; the team are working with us as part of a local initiative for development of early language.

On Monday evening Mr Salt is leading a meeting at 7pm for Parents in Prep 5 whose children are going to Alton Castle in June.

On Tuesday children and staff will be given the opportunity to pray the Rosary.

On Wednesday we will be using our skipping skills for our sponsored skip in aid of the ‘British Heart Foundation’, every child will be taking part to see how many continuous skips they can do - watch this space as we have some brilliant skippers!

Thursday is Ascension Day and we will be taking time as a whole school to focus on this event in Jesus life; we will be reflecting on how we can share God’s love through the Holy Spirit.

It is PTA Non Uniform Day on Friday, when the PTA asks that everyone brings a bottle in exchange for wearing non uniform. The bottles are being collected in readiness for the Summer Fayre to be held on Saturday 17th June.

On Friday we will be having a Recorder presentation led by Ms Bradburn who will show the children just how amazing the various types of Recorders can sound. We look forward to welcoming her back to our school.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on 5th June. Please remember that PP2 to P6 will be taking part in the Swimming Gala to be held at Denstone College and will need their swimming kits.

Free 15 or 30 hours EYFS Education Places are available for Under 5’s from September 2017; call the School Office for details and application forms.
