Dec 01

Week Commencing 4th December 2017

December is upon us - I heard someone ask if it was too early to say ‘Happy Christmas!’?

The shops are certainly ready for Christmas and at school we are busy preparing for all our Christmas festivities. I am sure parents will have heard some of the Christmas songs already. Our Pre Prep Nativity is on Wednesday 6th December and Thursday 7th December at 2pm in the school Hall. The Prep Christmas Service is on Thursday 14th December at 7pm in Holy Trinity Church Newcastle.

We look forward to welcoming you to these events.

In school whilst preparing for Christmas we are also focussing on the season of Advent and will be taking time to reflect and pray during this time of waiting for the arrival of Jesus.

One of the ways that we will be helping the school family to think about Advent and the true meaning of Christmas is to welcome the Posada figures into school on Friday 8th December.

The figures of Mary and Joseph are welcomed into school for a day and kept reverently throughout the day as we focus on the journey that Mary and Joseph took to Bethlehem and how they were turned away from so many places of rest. We welcome the Holy family and give them safe harbour for the day as we journey towards Christmas. Mrs Weston kindly brings Mary and Joseph into school. A log is kept of their journey to their final arrival in Church on Christmas Eve in preparation to celebrate Jesus birth.

Over the weekend Mr Long, a parent from Reception, will be doing a leaflet drop in the local area to alert people to the dangers of allowing their dogs to foul the pavements. On Monday to reinforce this members of school will be erecting child led notices on Rookery Lane encouraging people to collect their dogs waste and have a sense of responsibility.

On Monday we hope to send the Reports out to parents - technology allowing.
It is the Pre Prep dress rehearsal on Monday.

On Wednesday 6th December as well as our Pre Prep Nativity we are pleased to welcome Tom Murray, the Christian Brother Youth Development Officer, into school to continue to work with Prep 6 as they study for their Edmund Rice Awards.

On Wednesday Prep 5 are going to St Joseph’s College to entertain the elderly people who have been invited in for lunch by the Colleges St Vincent de Paul group.

Thursday 7th is the Pre Prep Concert at 2pm.

On Friday 8th December we have our Christmas lunch.
On 8th December myself and members of Prep 6 will be going to drop off our collection of food and clothing for the homeless at ‘Open Door’. Thank you to all who have given so generously to this appeal.
On Friday members of the Governing Body will be travelling to Altrincham to receive Governor training at the Edmund Rice Offices at ‘Woodeaves’.

As always throughout the week I will be showing visitors and potential parents around the school.
